Programme Overview

Cambridge International AS & A levels are among the world’s most respected pre – university qualifications.  They are important because they combine rigorous, in -depth study with flexible subject choice, global recognition and development of critical academic and life skills. They open doors for global higher education and enhance employability by demonstrating both knowledge mastery and critical skills that Universities and employers value.

The Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course, and the Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year. Our flexible course of study provides students with the opportunity to choose from different subjects in addition to the two compulsory subjects of English and Mathematics. This flexibility allows our students to individualise their learning to fit their interests and strengths. Cambridge International AS & A Level programmes combine an emphasis on mastering subjects in depth, at the same time as developing skills for study and work in the future.

Students take examinations at the end of AS level and end of A level. Both Examinations are conducted and evaluated by Cambridge.

The learning objectives of AS/A level are as follows:

a. Knowledge and understanding

    • Build a coherent grasp of key concepts, theories and facts in the chosen subject
    • To understand the links between topics and how foundational principles apply in new or unfamiliar concepts.

b. Application and Analysis

    • Apply theoretical knowledge to solve problems interpret data and make informed judgements.

c. Evaluation and Synthesis

    • Critically assess arguments, methodologies, sources or evidence, limitations and biases.
    • Combine ideas from different areas of the syllabus to propose novel solutions.

d. Communication and presentation

    • Express ideas clearly and coherently in writing and where required orally or through diagrams.

e. Practical and investigative skills

    • Design and carry out experiments or investigation safely, collect and record observation methodically.

f. Problem solving and critical thinking

    • Tackle unfamiliar problems by selecting and justifying suitable techniques or approaches.

g. Reflect on the solutions

    • Consider alternative strategies and broader implications.

Course Outline

Course Duration: 24 months (Full-time)

Course Commencement: July of each year

Course End: June of the following year

Contact Hours Per Week: 5 days x 5.5 hours

There are two terms in one Academic Year

  • Term 1 – July to December
  • Term 2 – January to June

Assessment Structure 
  • Students will complete 4 Formative Assessment, 3 cyclic Tests and 2 Semester Assessments annually.
  • Term 1: Formative Assessment (10%) , Cyclic Test 1 (20%). Cyclic Test 2 (20%) and Semester 1 Assessment (50%) = 100%
  • Term 2: Formative Assessment (10%), Cyclic Test 3 (20%) and Semester 2 Assessment (70%) = 100%

Assessment Schedule

  • All assessments will take place in August, October, November, February and May of the academic Year.

Report Cards

  • Report cards will be issued twice a year.
  • This provides opportunities for student’s self-reflection, teacher’s evaluation, and a section to assess the skills and activities to test on the learning outcomes of the students

Students need to successfully complete AS Level to progress to Cambridge Advanced Level which are both Cambridge Board exams.
